2016 Call for Papers

UACES Collaborative research Network (CRN):  Policing and European Studies.

Call for Papers: Developing the EU Agenda on Security.

The 2015 European Agenda on Security calls for a renewed Internal Security Strategy for the next five years, while prioritising

  • Terrorism, to include foreign terrorism fighters and radicalisation,
  • Organised crime, to include trafficking in human beings, environmental and financial crime, and
  • Cybercrime.

It highlights five key principles, being

  • Full compliance with fundamental rights,
  • Transparency, accountability and democratic control,
  • Better application and implementation of existing EU legal instruments,
  • More joined up inter-agency and cross-sectoral approaches, and
  • Bringing together the internal and external dimensions of security.

This UACES collaborative research network conference on Policing and European Studies will be exploring some of these issues at its sixth conference, looking at the resulting important political, legal and law enforcement practitioner challenges. This will be held on Friday the 29th April 2016 at Abertay University, Dundee.

We invite research papers (maximum of 6,000 words) from doctoral and early career researchers, as well as more established academics, practitioners and policy makers, from across a range of disciplines such as police and security studies, law, criminology and sociology, political science, International Relations, European studies, psychology, and management and organisational change.

Please send an abstract of 150 – 200 words to the organisers by the 29th January 16. You will be notified if your application is successful by Friday the 12th February 16, with registration for the conference being opened after that date.

After your paper has been accepted your paper should be submitted 7 days prior to the conference to enable the paper to be circulated in the conference proceedings.

It is intended that there will be a publication associated (details to be confirmed) and those papers submitted will be eligible for consideration.

Please contact the conference organisers if you require further information as to this conference, or the research network generally.
